- Answer 1 of 11: Hi, can anyone give their opinions on a Grand King Strip View room at the MGM? Looks nice from the pictures, but reading the recent MGM reviews is putting me in doubt. Although alot of the negative reviews are directed towards the West Wing King.
- I'd for for an executive suite if you're looking for an upgrade over a Grand room. I like the layout of the Executive King better than the Queen but they both are nice. Also, the 'strip view' really isnt much at the MGM so I'd never pay extra to get one there but I usually ask when I check-in. Edited: 4 years ago.

Room Upgrade Reports
I booked a grand king room for 120/night for 4 nights on new years eve. I picked an asian woman and when she asked for my ID and credit card I put 40$ in between.
I asked if there were any complimentary upgrades with a strip view and after a while of whispering to her managers she said she got one with a great view and said I had to wait. I asked if she could throw a complimentary fridge in there as well and she said yes.
After waiting for 1 and a half hours I got access to the room find there was no fridge nor a strip view. When new years eve hit there were no fireworks which I was greatly disappointed in!.
After getting home I looked at the bill and realized I had gotten charged 100$ for the 'complimentary fridge'. I had to call to get that taken off.
I knew it was going to be hard to get a room upgrade on Labor Day Weekend, but Vegas is a gamble so I decided to give It a try anyway. The check in line was packed as It was right around 3pm. I was very nice and gave her the sandwich. She said they were very busy, but she could see what she could do. She stepped aside to ring her manager. Unfortunately, since we were staying for the whole 3 day weekend, she could not set us up with a suite. She said that it was only available that night only. She kindly gave me back the money, but still put us up on a high floor as requested.
Tried tipping $100 to get a king or an upgrade. Was offered to pay $20 a night to upgrade and was handed the $100 bill back. Pretty embarrassing. Paid $250 a night for this room too and am a gold MLIFE member. Guess MGM ain't the place to try this trick
Arrived around 7:30pm. We had to wait in a line for maybe 10 minutes to check in and received a friendly male check in clerk. We slid over the ID and credit card with the $20 between them and asked if there were any complimentary room upgrades available. He gave us the option of choosing either a Stay Well King or the same West Wing Grand King just with a Strip View. We chose the Stay Well. We continued to chat in a friendly manner asking what shows he might suggest us and then he even comped our parking! The upgrade is so much nicer than we booked we were so happy this worked out! The room comes with a vitamin shower, aromatherapy, spa discount, warm lighting, UV cleaning and more!
I asked the check in clerk if they had any available upgrades or complimentary upgrades and even offered to tip them but they said they were not allowed to do so and nothing was available. I was offered a better room if I wanted to pay for the upgrade.
We had booked the West Wing King Room with the hopes of dropping $100 to get a better room. We checked-in around 3pm and the lines were long, didn't have a choice, ended up with a guy in his 30's. Slipped him the $100, and asked about upgrades. He typed for a couple minutes then handed it back and said there was nothing he could do. Not headed back to MGM any time soon, the West Wing is horrible.
Booked Grand King, upgraded to Strip View Grand Queen I guess? 2 days of stay. Not a best upgrade, but just enjoyed the first time experience on this trick. Checked in at around 12:30 AM on a Friday night/Saturday early morning. Concert going on that night (Jay Chou, one of the most popular Chinese singers). A lot of people waiting in line for checking in. Do a sandwich trick after he asked for ID, and asked is there any room upgrade. He walked away and talked to his manager, came back saying there might be no room for upgrade and returned $20 back. Then he gave us two small bottles of water, walked away again and came back saying we got green light. He saw we were holding the $20 and he said 'I'll take that at the end.' Everything went great and we did a handshake (not in Chandler Bing's way) and gave him the bill. Awesome experience!

I didn't see the options listed, but I booked a standard room and was upgraded to a Stay Well room. I didn't select a particular clerk, I just went with the next available and was friendly!
Mgm Grand Las Vegas Rooms
It was early evening about 7pm when we arrived. We were a party of 8 and all checked in all 4 rooms together. We each slipped in $50 between our id and credit card and asked if there were any complimentary upgrades. She said let me have a look , Put us all in the grand tower with strip views. And she said is the tip for her and we all said yes. We stayed for 6 nights. We did ask for a breakfast voucher or can she do something on restore fees but she said she couldn't.
Best $50 spent in Vegas ! Will definitely try it again.
Mgm Grand King Room Review
Gave the the 20$ Sandwich and asked kindly for a nice and decent room as we stayed 3 nights. The lady found the 20 looked at me funny and put it back on the desk, only using my ID and credit card. Apparently no upgrade available or she refrained to take it because of another colleague standing nearby? Or I might have failed 😉
